Auto-Update
How Ternux handles application updates across different platforms.
Ternux includes a built-in auto-updater to ensure you always have the latest features and security fixes.
Checking for updates
Ternux checks for updates automatically when the app starts, and periodically in the background.
You can also check manually by clicking the Notification Bell icon in the top-right corner of the Home tab.
The update process
When an update is found:
- A notification indicator appears on the bell icon.
- If you are on a supported platform, the update downloads in the background. A progress bar is visible if you click the bell icon.
- Once downloaded, clicking Install and Restart will apply the update and relaunch Ternux.
Platform differences
| Platform | Supported Formats | Auto-Update Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| macOS | .dmg, .app | Full auto-update in background |
| Windows | .msi, .exe | Full auto-update in background |
| Linux | .AppImage | Full auto-update in background |
| Linux | .deb, .rpm | Manual update required. Ternux will notify you that an update is available, but will direct you to download the new package from the website to install it via your package manager. |
