Creating a Workspace
Learn how to open a split-pane workspace by dragging tabs together.
A workspace is created by dragging one tab on top of another tab's terminal area. Once created, you can keep adding more panes to the same workspace.
Method 1 — Drag a tab onto a terminal
This is the quickest way to start a workspace.
- Open at least two terminal tabs (SSH or local).
- Click and hold the tab you want to attach.
- Drag it over the viewport (the terminal area, not the tab bar) of another terminal tab.
- A blue drop zone highlights the target pane — release to merge.
The two terminals are now side-by-side inside one workspace tab.
You can drag any tab — SSH, local terminal — onto an existing workspace to keep adding panes.
Method 2 — Add a pane from inside the workspace
Once you are inside a workspace, click the + button in any pane's header bar to open a new local terminal pane directly inside the workspace.
How many panes can I add?
| Dimension | Maximum |
|---|---|
| Panes per row | 6 |
| Rows | 2 |
When the limit is reached the + button is hidden.
Opening specific connections in a workspace
You can open an SSH connection into a workspace pane the same way you would normally open it:
- Double-click a host card in the Connections tab.
- The new SSH tab opens.
- Drag that tab onto your existing workspace to attach it.
